Even though you’re starting from scratch, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Think about your audience and the value you provide, then do a deep dive to:
Consider where your current subscriber is in their life or sales journey
Identify your primary business or marketing goal
Introduce yourself & your hope for the reader
Provide lots of value — whether that’s a blog post, PDF resource or video
Directly ask the reader to engage
I don’t follow a strict framework for building out emails for Duett clients, though the five points above are essential to creating an intentional and effective onboarding experience for new subscribers joining a client’s email list.
When it comes to developing welcome sequences for my clients, the process requires us to FOCUS. That’s why I ask the questions I do in Your First Welcome Sequence. <— it’s free, so be sure to get it for yourself.
Of course, I don’t like to make assumptions about what it is that subscribers are searching for. That’s why research is the very first step of the Duett Debut process. There is an incredible amount to learn about your audience that directs the strategy we create and the words we use for your brand.
Through researching audiences — I research through Amazon book reviews, surveys, phone call interviews, and current site and email engagement — I gather both qualitative and quantitative data.
At this point, I’m learning and observing. The key issues your audience is struggling with — and where they want to be or feel once their problems are solved — will come to light, illuminating the rest of the Duett Debut process.
I base my strategies on real data. I’m never guessing, and my clients appreciate it:
Once I’ve completed the research and we know where we’re headed, we move into building out our content strategy and writing the emails — finally, the part you’ve been waiting for!
If you’re like me and say things like “golly” and “gosh darn” — my “voice” both reveals that a) I’m from the Midwest, and b) I don’t take myself to seriously! We all have our quirks 😉
